Sale Golf Club members celebrate at annual gents dinner

Mark Marshall receives the Scratch Trophy from Disha Ranshi and Peter Bradford at Sale Golf Club

Sale Golf Club celebrated a great year in the club’s long history at their annual gentleman’s dinner attended by officials, members and special guests from Worsley and Dunscar Golf Clubs.

The club’s ‘major’ trophies were presented by captain Disha Ranshi and president Peter Bradford along with John Royle, Tony Ball and Andy McClean.

The star of the show was Scratch Trophy winner Mark Marshall, who also won the ‘Most Improved Player’ dropping his handicap by two shots to scratch after playing in 49 handicap qualifying competitions.

Mark also retained the Mersey Champions Trophy with a new record score over 36 holes and he played a big part in the club winning the Mersey League.

Also earning a deserved mention were the Sale ladies who won the Bell Cup against over 80 clubs in the region.

Among the other ‘major’ trophy winners were Steve Berg, Steve Price, John Russell, John Sallabank, Ray Boland, Neil Griffiths, Mobi Rawthore, Dan Poole, Dan Walmsley, Peter Middleton and joint team players of the year Steve Carr and Gary Edwards.

The night also raised, through auctions and raffles a great sum of £2,700 to provide support for Sale member and Altrincham GC green keeper Will Partington, who is recovering from serious injuries sustained in a road traffic accident earlier in the year.

This takes their total raised to date to just under £3k.

Club manager Sam Poole said: “As well as success on the course we are pleased to have a healthy profit for the second year running which we are keen now to reinvest in the course.

“Membership levels continue to improve with a significant increase in the lady membership helped by a friendly and welcoming section which has a great competitions schedule.

The men’s seven-day membership is almost full due to the strength and quality of the competitions schedule and we regularly have over 200 playing in Saturday competitions.

“The juniors also have a very strong section and they have won all of the Mersey competitions this year.

“We have about 70 juniors who enjoy weekly summer coaching plus a winter development programme at the Trafford Golf Centre pointing to a bright future for the club.”
