Altrincham VS Cancer has raised another £3,000 for The Christie Hospital in Manchester.
Now in its fifth year, the event organised by Altrincham HQ and Pure Gym Altrincham has now raised over £12,500 and saw the organisers shortlisted in the Small Business Big Heart Awards.
The annual event sees 28 runners from Altrincham business and community groups come together to run a combined 140km.
This year saw some new runners from the likes of The Unicorn, Con Club Altrincham, Gran T’s, House Restaurant & Bar, Honeybeat Cafe, Two Brothers alongside regulars such as The Window Company, Altrincham FC, Red House Farm, Altrincham Design Studio, Oxford Road Cafe, and the Altrincham Town Centre Partnership.
Organiser Alex McCann, from Altrincham HQ, said: “Last year we just fell short of our £10,000 target so I was determined to raise the bar this year.
“I believe it’s really important that we keep raising funds every year for charities like The Christie.
“Being a small business with a big heart is never just about one event, it’s about creating a sustainable annual event to help others.
“Each year more money goes into the pot and we keep trying to help families affected by cancer. There is no more a worthy charity than a charity like The Christie.”
The Christie in Withington has been pioneering cancer research breakthroughs for over 100 years and offer patients access to hundreds of clinical trials.
It’s one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe treating over 44,000 patients a year serving a population of 3.2 million people across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
