Altrincham businesses and community groups raised almost £3,000 at the third annual Altrincham VS Cancer event.

Organised by local businesses Altrincham HQ and Pure Gym, the event raised £2,828 for The Christie hospital in Withington with donations still flowing in
The event saw the runners take in 140km on the treadmills and has been their most successful event to date
The three events to date have raised a combined £7,472 for The Christie.

Altrincham VS Cancer was launched in 2014 to mark the opening of Pure Gym in Altrincham and has become a regular fixture in March

For the past two years the event has been recognised by Justgiving for being in the Top 3% of fundraisers in the UK
The concept behind the 140k run was based on Twitter – there are 140 characters allowed in a tweet and many of those taking part in the run are part of the local Altrincham Twitter community
Organiser Alex McCann of Altrincham HQ said: “Altrincham VS Cancer is always one of my highlights of the year. It’s so good to be able to give something back to such a deserving cause each year.
In December last year we were invited to The Christie’s sporting reception for fundraisers which really brought it home how much events like this help the charity.
They need millions each year to pioneer research in the fight against cancer and in the scheme of things – our fundraising is just a drop towards that. But many drops become an ocean. Everyone plays their part.
“Seeing the community come together for something as important as Altrincham VS Cancer is really heart-warming to see – the whole town really does get behind us and cheers us on.”
Altrincham VS Cancer will be back again in March 2017 and donations for this years event are still being accepted on Justgiving.
