Award-winning charity Create works with pupils from Chorlton and Gorton

Pupils from Loreto High School and Grange School with MP Jeff Smith

Award-winning charity Create has been working with two schools in South Manchester to help them compose and perform their own music.

Its programme aims to bring together young people – with and without disabilities – through artistic collaboration.

Create’s professional musicians, Mathew Dunn and Emily Allen, worked alongside pupils from Loreto High School in Chorlton and Grange School in Gorton – a community specialist school for pupils with autism – to deliver multi-sensory musical activities that allowed the group to ‘explore and devise soundscapes and musical compositions’.

The sessions culminated in a performance in front of families, friends and staff along with MP Jeff Smith at Loreto.

Create’s co-founder and chief executive, Nicky Goulder, said: “A 2013 Disability in the UK report states that children with disabilities often face social exclusion.creative:connection has been designed to foster positive relationships between young people with and without disabilities.

“Through engaging with collective creativity and collaboration, an inclusive environment can be created in which new friendships and new skills can flourish.”
