A weekend of mixed fortunes for Manchester Magic saw them crowned NBL division one champions but lose their 20-game winning streak at Derby.

They first took on Bradford Dragons, their first home game in over four weeks, as champions as Lancashire Spinners had to concede their match.

Defensively Magic shone, conceding only 42 points, their lowest for the season, while pushing the attack to score 70.

Simon Anumba scored 16 points, Kayin Darby 13 and Lee Goldsborough.

Magic then travelled to Derby the following day for a hard game for both sides.

Magic took an early lead only to be pulled back with Derby taking control, winning the second quarter 20-5.

Magic stepped up a gear in the final quarter to draw level but a foul-laden game from both camps was Magic undoing in the final seconds, Derby winning 72-68.

Ellis Cooper was Magic’s main man with 17 points, Alvaro Alarcon-Lizaur scored 13 and Darby 10.

Magic return to the Amaechi Centre for an Easter double header this weekend, which sees the end of the regular season.

They face Kent Crusaders on Saturday and Reading Rockets on Sunday (tips 6.30pm and 5pm respectively).

Magic will have home advantage in both the quarter-final and semi-final with the final in Sheffield.
