Beechwood Cancer Care Centre: Runners needed, Chelsea Norris steps aside

Last year’s runners led by Scott Cooke – husband of Kirsty who passed away last year. Team Kirsty is also running this year.

Beechwood Cancer Care Centre is looking for runners to take part in this year’s Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 28.

Runners have two options for 2017, signing up for the half marathon route or the usual 10km. So far, the Stockport charity has 30 people registered for the half marathon and 80 for the 10km.

There are still plenty of free places available to run for Beechwood – all they ask is that you aim to raise a minimum of £120 for the charity.

Last year, a total of 96 people ran in the Great Manchester Run for Beechwood, including Team Kirsty, led by Scott Cooke.

He will be joined again this year by friends and family of his wife Kirsty, who sadly passed away last year after her battle with cancer.

Fundraising manager at Beechwood, Angela Gray, said: “The Great Manchester Run is always a fabulous day. The streets will be lined with supporters and it is a great atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who has joined Team Beechwood so far and we look forward to more people signing up.”

Chelsea Norris steps down

Popular radio presenter Chelsea Norris has stepped down as patron of Beechwood Cancer Care Centre after seven years of fantastic service.

Chelsea, who last year left Key 103 after 11 years and is now working at BBC Radio Manchester, first came across Beechwood’s work after a personal association with the charity.

After becoming a patron in 2010, she has supported events and campaigns, including our Tree of Lights, Ladies Lunch and Fashion show, the Butterfly Ball and much more.

Fundraising manager, Angela Gray, said “We are very sorry to see Chelsea go, it has been fantastic working with her over the last seven years at our events and she has made a huge difference to Beechwood.

“She was instrumental in Cash for Kids Super hero day and we can’t thank her enough.

“We all wish Chelsea the very best with her new role at  BBC Radio Manchester.”
