Declan McGeehan pounces at the breakdown for Heaton Moor

Heaton Moor 20-39 Bowdon

Heaton Moor Junior Colts’ winning run was brought to a shuddering halt as an impressive Bowdon side visited Heatons Sports Club.

In a thoroughly entertaining game the visitors took the spoils in a 39-20 victory which owed much to their spectacular handling and running game.

Two early tries set the tone in a whirlwind first quarter, some breathtaking rugby on view.

Moor got a foothold in the second quarter when fighting displays by props Declan McGeehan and Hasham Gondal, and man-of-the-match Tom Heaton resulted in James Molloy showing great tenacity with two tries but Bowdon hit back each time, leaving Moor behind at the break 20-10.

Moor started the second half brightly, an intelligent break by scrum-half Dom Rafferty sending Bob Berry away for a try to close the deficit to five points.

Moor looked as though they had weathered the Bowdon storm. However, in the crucial moment halfway through the second half, Moor were overturned when in a commanding position, and a rapid counter-attack led to a try for Bowdon which was duly converted.

This was quickly followed by another as Bowdon punished mistakes ruthlessly.

Nick Tenney pulled a try back but in the end, it was no more than a consolation as Bowdon finished another flowing move to run out victors by 39-20.

Heaton Moor travel to Eccles this weekend.
