Around £12,000 was raised for Francis House Children’s Hospice at the Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club Duck Race.

An estimated 25,000 people packed the annual event at Bramhall Park at the weekend.

The cup for the Best Dressed Duck was judged by Cheadle MP Mary Robinson and was won by Bramhall Methodist Church Rainbows.

Kate Puc, fundraising manager at Francis House, said: “I am extremely grateful to Bramhall and Woodford Rotary Club for all the hard work, time, effort and enthusiasm that they put into organising this event and raising vital funds for Francis House Children’s Hospice.

“The day went swimmingly and was greatly supported by the public. Raising £12,000 is a phenomenal amount to raise and we are truly appreciative of this gift which is a very welcome addition to the funding needed for the day-to-day upkeep of Francis House Children’s Hospice.”

As well as duck racing there was a fairground, games, community choirs, dancing groups and craft stalls.

There was music from Walthew Steel Band, Bramhall High School Orchestra and Stockport Schools Brass Band.

Along with Elegant Chainsaw Carving, this year also saw a Rainbow 88-sponsored Chinese Unicorn Dance, a demonstration of Krav Maga and Shetland Pony Rides.

The event was sponsored by Barclays Bank, Angela Beer, Reed Rains Estate Agents and CadAssist.
