Brass bands concert at Stockport Plaza for St Ann’s Hospice

The Fairey Brass Band are playing for St Ann's Hospice at Stockport Plaza

Stockport’s finest brass band talent will share the stage for a night of top class musical entertainment at Stockport Plaza on Saturday, June 24, from 7.30pm.

The famous Fairey Brass Band will perform alongside the SSBB, formerly known as the Stockport Schools Brass Band, in a concert in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.

The programme features a host of favourites, including the rousing 1812 Overture.

The world-renowned Fairey Brass Band, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, was founded at the Aviation Works in Heaton Chapel where the band still use the factory to rehearse.

SSBB, which rehearses at Stockport Music Service within Castle Hill High School, Offerton, attended a training day with tutors from Faireys to prepare for the national youth championships.

Lucy Cutt, a flugel horn player with Fairey and a former SSBB member, said: “We’re renewing our links with SSBB and are keen to support the musical development of young players in the Stockport area.

“It’ll be a great occasion at the Plaza for such a worthy cause and we’re delighted to invite SSBB to share the stage with Faireys. Stockport has a wealth of musical talent and this concert will showcase brass band music at its very best.”

Tickets are available from the Stockport Plaza box office or by calling the box office on 0161 477 7779.
