The Royal British Legion is looking for volunteers to help with Manchester Poppy Day on Friday, November 2 – the biggest street cash collection of its kind in Europe
Volunteers will cover key locations around Manchester to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Last year the event raised £36,000 in a single day.
The Legion’s Community Fundraising Manager for the North West, Alan Whitmore, said: “Manchester Poppy Day relies on volunteers who come from all walks of life, including civilians, our Armed Forces community, veterans, corporate companies, Royal British Legion staff, Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Police, who have kindly given their own time to enable it to be a success on the day.
“The money raised allows the Royal British Legion to be active in the community all year round, providing help and support for our Armed Forces community.”
Participation must be pre-booked at manpoppyday@britishlegion.org.uk.
Volunteers are given official collection passes and vouchers for lunch during the day, and there are seven different locations staffed from 7am until 6pm, including city centre railway stations and shopping locations, as well as the Trafford Centre.
A Poppy Bus will tour the city with VIPs, volunteers, guests and military personnel, visiting some of the city’s biggest employers to collect donations desk to desk.
This year the Royal British Legion is holding just four city poppy days including Manchester, London, Birmingham and Bristol.
With the support of volunteers, veterans and uniformed personnel, the events raise thousands of pounds for the Poppy Appeal in a single day.
