The British Racing and Sports Car Club (BRSCC) returned to Oulton Park for four wheel action. A wet morning for practice gave way to a warm breezy afternoon with the occasional heavy shower.
On the programme were races for Mazda MX-5 and Super MX-5, Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford and Cox Motor Parts Civic Cup.
Rory Smith was on pole position for the first of two 20-minute races for the Northern Formula Ford 1600 Championship.
Next to him was David McArthur with Jaap Blijleven and Jack Wolfenden on row two.
Smith led away with Wolfenden slotting into second and McArthur third.
By the end of lap one McArthur had taken second and the first two then pulled away from the rest of the field, McArthur putting Smith under constant pressure until the safety car was deployed, bunching the field back up.
Within a lap of the race resuming McArthur took the lead only for the race to be red-flagged with five minutes to go.
Because the race result is based on the lap previous to the red flag, Smith took the win from McArthur and Wolfenden in third.
The grid for race two being set from the results of race one, Smith and McArthur were once again on the front row.
In a repeat of race one Smith led away with Wolfenden slotting into second and McArthur third. Again by the end of lap one McArthur had taken second but this time Smith was two and a half seconds up the road. McArthur gradually reduced the gap and took the lead on lap five.
He and Smith then swapped places continuously until McArthur finally took the flag with Smith second. Wolfenden was given a ten second penalty for a jump start but managed to pull out an eleven second gap on fourth to hang onto third place.
In other events there were wins for Will Blackwell-Chambers, Simon Orange, Callum Greatrex, and Marcus Bailey, and two wins for Samuel Smith in the MX-5s.
Joshua Jackson took two wins in the Super MX-5 events and Arron Sharp took a win in the Civic Cup.
