Didsbury businesses with a competitive spirit are being invited to sign up for the first-ever Didsbury Business Games.

The eight-week programme of fun events is aimed at bringing the business community together to raise funds for The Christie Charity.

The games have been established by five Didsbury based businesses; The Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club, Towers Business Park, Ten Pin, Parrs Wood School and Food Sorcery.

Jamie Lyne, MD at Waterside Hotel and Leisure Club, said: “We wanted to launch an activity for the local business community that would bring people together outside work.

“We saw that other business communities in the UK had staged tournament style events and thought ‘why not do something similar here in Didsbury?’.

“We were also keen to support a local charity and once we had The Christie on board it was all systems go.”

The inaugural Didsbury Business Games will kick off on Wednesday, May 10, with a ten-pin bowling challenge.

Other events planned include a cooking contest, table tennis, dodge ball, ‘Very Muddy’ assault course, softball and a back-to-school quiz night.

Each event will raise money for The Christie Charity’s Teenage and Youth Adult Unit, a specialist cancer centre for children, teens and young adults.

Jen Bailey, from The Christie Charity, has been helping Didsbury Business Games co-ordinate the fundraising element of the event.

She said: “When we were approached by the founders to be the chosen charity we were thrilled.  As a charity we are always looking for new ways to raise money as we are continually working to improve the patients’ experience.

“The extra money we raise enables us to support our patients above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide and means that we can attract world-class clinicians and scientists who all work to benefit our patients. It’s a very exciting event to be involved in,” she added.

Companies in the Didsbury area wanting to take part are invited to visit the games website, which also offers ideas for fundraising events local businesses can stage at work throughout the duration of Didsbury Business Games to increase the fundraising total donated to The Christie Charity.
