Businesses hit the football pitch for St Ann’s Hospice

The winning Co-op team

Business professionals from across Greater Manchester braved the elements to play in the finals of the ninth annual Manchester Professionals’ Football League (MPFL) in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.

The five-a-side football tournament – hosted annually by professional services recruitment specialist Sellick Partnership – has become a staple event of the Manchester business community, attracting some of the north west’s most prominent organisations.

This year 24 teams took part including BNY Mellon, EY and PwC.

The Co-operative Group was crowned overall winners after beating Money Advice Group in the final, taking home the MPFL Cup.

Softcat also had cause for celebration after beating Zeus Capital to take home the Plate.

Ray Wareing, MPFL organiser and Sellick Partnership Director, said: “We’ve come to the end of another super league and once again I have been blown away by the standard of the competition.

“Each and every team competed boldly, and I am delighted that MPFL nine has been a complete success.

“I am especially grateful for the monetary donations given by each of the competing teams.

“This money will be donated to our chosen charity St Ann’s Hospice, and will help them continue the vital work that they do for people with life-limiting conditions across Greater Manchester. Without fundraising events like the MPFL, St Ann’s Hospice would not be able to continue.”

Since its formation in 2009, the MPFL has raised around £9,000 for St Ann’s Hospice, a figure that has helped the hospice provide care such as therapy sessions and bereavement support for hundreds of people across Greater Manchester.
