Classic Sports Car Club action at Oulton Park

The Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) ran four-wheel action at Oulton Park. Showery conditions in the morning made way for heavy rain in the afternoon making racing conditions difficult, at the Cheshire track.

On the programme were events for Adams & Page Swinging Sixties, RSV Graphics New Millennium with Modern Classics, Gold Arts Magnificent Sevens, Tin Tops, Advantage Motorsport Future Classics and the Meteor Suspension Open Series.

Stephen Nuttall from Stockport and Darren Burke qualified their Caterham Seven Supersport on pole position for the 40-minute, two-driver Gold Arts Magnificent Seven race.

Next to them on the front row was Jonathon Mitchell, with Gary Bate and Nicholas Grindrod on row two.

Nuttall got a dreadful start almost stalling on the grid and lucky not to be collected by cars from behind. This left him in around fifteenth place into the first corner.

The order after lap one saw Grindrod in the lead, Tim Davis, from row three, in second and Bate third. Nuttall was already making up places and came round in ninth place.

Grindrod proceeded to pull out a good lead while Davis and Bate scrapped over second, Davis having to give up the place on lap five.

Grindrod took his compulsory pit stop at the end of lap six with almost an eight second lead, leaving Bate in first. Nuttall had made up one more place to eighth when he pitted at the end of lap five.

Bate was the last of the leaders to pit at the end of that same lap, leaving Grindrod back in the lead where he stayed until the chequered flag.

Davis passed Bate whilst he was in the pits and although it was close towards the end Davis managed to pull out a couple of seconds and secure second place.

The Nuttall/Burke car suffered more problems, after a long pit stop they finished up a lap behind and finally pitted at the end of lap thirteen to retire.

In other events, the Swinging Sixties was won by Mark Campbell in his Triumph TR5.

In the New Millennium and Modern Classics Piers Reid New Millennium honours and overall victory in his BMW M3 whilst Edward Leigh won the Modern Classics in his BMW M3.

Tom Mensley won the Tin Tops in his Renault Clio 172. The Future Classics was won by Tim Bates in his Porsche 911 and the Open Series was won by Tim Davis in his Caterham C400.
