Co-operative Bank to stay in Stockport town centre

The Co-op Bank in Stockport town centre

The Co-operative Bank has renewed its lease at St Peter’s Square in Stockport to continue to provide high street banking services to the town.

The bank, which has been trading since 1872, will now retain its presence in the town centre at the Orbit Developments’ property.

The good news comes in the wake of announcements, expected to impact in March, concerning loss of management and head office jobs in Manchester and Stockport as part of the bank’s three year plan to rebuild the business.

St Peter’s Square is located next door to the Merseyway shopping centre and just a couple of minutes’ walk away from bus and train stations.

The move has been welcomed by Orbit’s leasing director for Stockport, Rhys Owen, who said: “We are delighted that the Co-operative Bank has renewed its high street commitment to the town and in St Peter’s Square, which is so central and convenient for town centre visitors, residents and businesses.”
