Stockport County’s leading scorer Danny Lloyd has joined League One side Peterborough United.

Lloyd scored 29 goals for the Hatters last season but has now signed a three-year deal at Posh on a free transfer.

“I believe in my ability and believe this is a level I should be playing at. I wish it was 1 July already,” he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

“To be brutally honest it was a very easy decision to join Peterborough. Once I spoke with the gaffer about the way he wants to play, it’s very similar to what I’ve been playing.

“I think I’ll fit in really well and he thinks I’ll fit in really well. Everyone knows Peterborough United’s track record and what they’ve done for lads from non-league.

“First and foremost, this season’s about working hard for the club and if the club do well, the lads will do well.”

County boss Jim Gannon says the departure of Danny Lloyd should be ‘an inspiration’ for other players who want to progress into professional football.

Gannon told the club’s official website: “Although it is naturally disappointing for all to lose Danny, that disappointment is quickly dissipated by such a great move for the lad.

“Danny left AFC Fylde in some ways disillusioned with the game, and coming to Edgeley Park has restored both his enjoyment of the game and zest to progress as a player.

“Danny is going to a great club that have great football people in charge, and a record for giving non-league players a chance and platform for further success.

“We cannot but give him all our best wishes for further success.”
