The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care named as law firm SAS Daniels’ charity of the year

North West law firm SAS Daniels has announced the Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care as its new charity of the year. Staff from SAS Daniels’ Chester, Congleton, Macclesfield and Stockport offices will join forces to take part in a number of fundraising activities over the year in support of the charity.

The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care, which is based in Stockport, provides weekend and bank holiday day care for up to 42 people living with dementia as well as their carers.

Established in 1991, the charity recognises that carers find weekends particularly difficult with limited public support services available during this time. It also finds that urgent admissions to hospital increase dramatically during this period due to stress experienced by carers who are looking after highly dependent relatives 24 hours a day.

The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care was voted for by SAS Daniels’ staff from a selection of Cheshire-based charities. The law firm’s previous charity of the year was the Babygrow Appeal for The Countess of Chester Hospital for which it raised over £4,000.

Jean Walker, Head of CSR and Partner at SAS Daniels said, “We are committed to supporting our local community and our charity work is an essential part of this. With so many local charities doing such great work, it’s never an easy decision choosing who to support. However I am delighted that we have selected the Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care. As an increasing number of people are affected by dementia we hope to support carers and their relatives as much as we can.”

Gary Morris, Treasurer, The Weekend Day Centre for Dementia Care said: “We are delighted that the staff at SAS Daniels have chosen us as their charity of the year 2016/17. The centre provides much needed weekend day-care services to those people living with dementia in Stockport, and their carers.  We have our 25th Anniversary this year and look forward to SAS Daniels’ support in helping us raise funds and awareness.”
