Foodie Friday becomes ‘Goodie Friday’

Foodie Friday is gearing up to be a popular Bank Holiday destination this week, attracting more visitors than ever with its gourmet street food, craft ales and live music and entertainment.

Taking place from 6pm-9pm in Stockport’s historic Market Place, the monthly event – sponsored by Orbit Developments – is all set to welcome more of the region’s top food and drink operators than ever with their delicious fayre.

From burgers and barbecues to smoked Southern style, tapas, Turkish and Thai, there is a style of street food to suit the many visitors expected to visit from across Greater Manchester.

The Good Friday event will take on a further foodie twist with all bands playing songs recorded in the iconic Strawberry Studios in Stockport.

As well as enjoying great food and drink, visitors will celebrate this musical legacy with performances featuring the music of 10cc, Sad Cafe, Neil Sedaka, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Buzzcocks and James and more.

Foodie Friday has long been a popular event among the local community, it continues to stimulate the growing evening economy for businesses in Stockport Old Town and particularly around the Market Square.

It has already helped improve footfall and substantially increase business turnover for the newly-refurbished food and drink operators in and around the area.

John Barratt from Foodie Friday, who manages the event, said: “Foodie Friday is a key business driver by many retailers and operators around the market square. This week’s event is a little different to normal as it’s on a Bank Holiday.

“So instead of attracting those who work in and around Stockport as we so often do, we’re expecting to welcome a much more diverse group of local people who are quite passionate about enjoying great food, great drinks, great music and a great time.

Tony Jones, Managing Director at Orbit Developments, said: “Foodie Friday is an important event in the local calendar. It provides a boost to both the local economy and to those ending their working week in and around the town.

“The fact that this week’s event is taking place on a Bank Holiday means that it will appeal to a wider audience – providing the most delicious and enjoyable start to the long weekend ahead.”
