A Stockport garage has driven hundreds of pounds of donations for St Ann’s Hospice thanks to its latest fundraising idea.

The team at BI Appleton Ltd in Heald Green decided to help raise money for near-by charity St Ann’s by donating £5 from every MOT it carried out during a two-month period, an initiative which raised £785.

Gerrard Appleton, from B.I Appleton Ltd, said: “We thought it would be great to give our customers the opportunity to raise money for this amazing cause and we were thrilled that so many people took up the offer.

“It’s brilliant to be able to support another local organisation in this way, and it’s just one of the ways we’ve been helping St Ann’s in recent months.”

BI Appleton Ltd also took part in this year’s Manchester Midnight Walk for the hospice, with a team of staff taking on the 10k sponsored moonlit stroll through the city.

Eamonn O’Neal, chief executive of St Ann’s, said: “With only a third of our funding coming from the NHS the hospice relies on the kind generosity of local people to ensure we can continue to care for our patients.

“A huge thank you to everyone at the garage, and to all of their customers too – your donations really do make a difference to the lives of the people we support.”
