Runners of all ages and abilities are being urged to get moving in preparation for this year’s BIG Stockport Run.

The 10km race, which is organised by Stockport’s Life Leisure, will take place on Sunday, September 15, and will also include a 1km and one-mile family fun runs.

Last year almost 1,000 runners took to the streets for the big event, raising thousands for charity and local causes.

Organisers are hoping their early announcement will encourage yet more people and families to take part, making this year the biggest run yet.

Sam Barton, Community Sports Officer at Life Leisure and the Big Run project lead, said: “The Big Stockport Run just gets better and better each year.

“Entrants can run, walk or complete the course as a group – so it’s not just for serious runners. It’s a great atmosphere and lots of fun.

“We’re announcing this year’s event nice and early so all runners – particularly those new to the sport and who fancy a challenge – have plenty of time to train.

“People travel quite far to compete in races, but we’re putting out the call. If you want to try a 10k, why not try one in your home town?”

The event was originally organised as a legacy of the London Olympic Games in 2012.

The main race will start at 10am, with the family fun run starting shortly after at 10.15am. The 10k course for this year starts and finishes at St Petersgate, winding through Woodbank Memorial Park and Vernon Park along the way.

Entry costs £17 in advance, £15 for affiliated runners, or £20 on the day, and £5 for the family fun run. Team Entry options are also available.
