The team was made up of captain and former HR manager Chris Mullaney, external NVQ assessor Jacky Mullaney, receptionist Dawn Williams, marketing manager Paul Longmire, and Ben Hardman, a marketing executive at the firm based at Dale House, Tiviot Dale. Alyson Hirst, from credit control, travelled as back-up.

Ben won his head-to-head and was joined by Chris in the final round to play for the £4,000 first prize but they were defeated by the sudden-death question on the Indian board game pachisi, a type of Ludo.

Ben, 26, who answered questions on sport in his individual head-to-head, said: “We were very happy with our overall performance and proud to say we gave some of the best quizzers in the country a good game.

“We took them to sudden death in three rounds, including the final, and won another – I think I got lucky with a good batch of sport questions.

“We had a brilliant day up in Glasgow and were treated very well by everyone on the set, including all of the Eggheads and Jeremy Vine.

“It was a pity we couldn’t take home the prize money but we represented Gorvins well and had a good laugh.”

The show is still available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
