Heaton Moor Junior Colts keep up perfect away record

Eccles 14-17 Heaton Moor

Heaton Moor Junior Colts kept their 100% away record with a narrow victory at Eccles.

In a game they dominated thanks to a brilliant performance by their pack, the away side almost fell foul to a late rally by their hosts and were it not for a crunching double tackle by Dylan Starkie late on they may have left empty-handed.

As it was, two more tries from top-scorer James Molloy and one from Dom Rafferty provided the cushion to get over the line.

In a one-sided first half, Moor pinned their opponents back, man-of-the-match Shane Ennis, on his return from serious injury, standing out with a colossal performance, assisted up front by Declan McGeehan and Stephen Ireland.

Rafferty opened the scoring with a trademark burst from the back of a scrum, Joe Kilbride converting.

Molloy then got in on the action with a fantastic individual effort to leave the visitors in front at half-time by 12-0.

The second half followed a similar pattern but Moor failed to add to the scoreline until halfway through the second half, Molloy punishing a poor kick by his opposite number to touch down to extend the lead to 17 points.

But again, indiscipline saw Rafferty and Jonno Glanfield in the sin-bin and Eccles capitalised with two late converted tries and but for Starkie’s important intervention at the death, it may have been a different outcome.

But all in all, another victory for Heaton Moor with one more game left in this section against Winnington Park at home next Sunday.
