Newcastle Senior Colts 17-35 Heaton Moor Senior Colts
Heaton Moor ran in five tries in Staffordshire to keep the pressure on Halbro North West Colts League leaders Altrincham Kersal and maintain their unbeaten start to 2019.
From the off, the Moor boys were camped in their own half as the hosts made a bright start and opened the scoring with two tries and also a missed penalty in front of the posts.
A spark was required and from Nick Tenney’s kick-off, Bob Berry chased well and forced a knock-on.
The scrum proved effective and a couple of passes later, Emilio Ramirez beat two defenders and opened the Moor account, Tenney with the conversion from a tricky angle.
Moor then started to dominate proceedings and on the stroke of half-time, a clearance by Joe Kilbride held up in the wind, Ramirez showed great strength, won the ball and from 50 metres sprinted away to score, the conversion a lot easier for Tenney on this occasion.
The visitors burst out of the traps at the start of the second half and five minutes in Joe Kilbride scored a beauty after a strong Moor scrum.
He still had a lot to do when Tenney passed but he expertly dropped a shoulder and scored.
Moor were now rampant and a few minutes later, Trevor Danson-Chappell made a great break from midfield, the ball recycled for Connor Bailey to score in the corner.
A testing kick for Tenney wide on the right sailed between the posts to keep up his perfect record and Moor had a commanding 18-point advantage.
From a defensive scrum in their own 22, Moor managed to overturn a Newcastle scum, Rafferty feeding Tenney and the ball was transferred to Asa Bottomley on the left wing to score.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Moor took their foot off the gas slightly, Newcastle scoring a final. converted try.
