Heaton Moor Senior Colts 48-15 Vale of Lune
Heaton Moor Senior Colts were outstanding as they obliterated Vale of Lune in a clinical display in their opening Lancashire League fixture.
Led by the excellent James Bellis in a man-of-the-match display, Moor tore into their opponents with a virtuoso eight-try performance.
There were a couple more injuries to temper matters – Andrew Badrock suffered a nasty ankle injury very early on and new Lancashire recruit Joe Kilbride retired late in the game with a rib injury.
With a tricky visit to Altrincham next weekend, the strength of the squad will be tested.
It only took ten minutes for the home side to open the scoring when Will Smith finished off a great team score, countless phases creating the opening and Nick Tenney adding the conversion from a very tough kick.
Then followed two tries in three minutes, Bob Berry and then Nick Tenney after a brilliant catch and line break by James Bellis.
Tenney then doubled his tally for the day before top scorer Asa Bottomley intercepted and ran to score from his own half for a 31-0 half-time lead.
Straight from the kick-off, Asa Bottomley ran at the Lancastrians, creating the opening for Joe Kilbride to outrun the Vale of Lune defence and score under the posts.
Trevor Chappell-Danson got his name on the scoresheet, the result of yet another team move.
Vale of Lune got a deserved score halfway through the second half, their forwards finally seeing some results from their hard work.
But then Tom Bushby went over for his first score, Tenney terrorising the visitors with savage work, forcing a turnover.
Heaton Moor took their foot off the gas in the last 10 minutes with Vale of Lune adding two unanswered tries to give them some consolation for the long journey home.
