Pupils at Hulme Hall Grammar School took steps to help fight cancer with a sponsored walk in aid of Stockport charity Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.

Children from Years 7, 8 and 9 walked around Bruntwood Park in Cheadle and the surrounding area to raise funds for their chosen charity.

Headteacher Rachael Allen said: “We are delighted to be supporting Beechwood and all the tremendous assistance they give to families.

“We wanted to choose a charity within our local community and Beechwood was the obvious choice, especially as so many of our pupils and staff have been touched by cancer in some way.”

Angela Gray, Beechwood’s head of fundraising is delighted the centre – which helps people living with cancer and other life-limiting illness – has been chosen as Hulme Hall’s charity of the year.

She added: “The support of the local community is so important to our charity and the fact that young people are engaging in fundraising in this way means that we are able to offer help and support to more people living with cancer or life-limiting illness.

“We are looking forward working with the school – their donations will make a huge difference.”

Staff and pupils have also taken part in a non-uniform day and a cake sale is planned for next term to continue to raise funds.
