Iddon and Luxton impress at Donington Park

Christian Iddon at Donington Park

Tyco BMW rider Christian Iddon recovered from a crash in qualifying to finish seventh in the opening race at Donington Park in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

Iddon’s team needed three hours to repair his bike as started 18th on the grid.

One lap in and the former World Superbike rider had claimed five places and was up to 13th, and Iddon continued his climb, picking off a total of eleven riders to finish seventh, and set the fifth fastest time for the race two grid.

On to Sunday, and after setting fourth fastest time in warm-up, Iddon challenged for the lead from the off in race two, eventually settling for sixth place in a close race.

Iddon ran strongly again in race three, but a mistake on lap eight meant he dropped to eighth place, battling back to take sixth place at the flag.

Iddon said: “A seventh, sixth and sixth this weekend was good after a big high-side in qualifying which left a bit of a challenge ahead for race one.

“I managed to pick my way through the pack and secure a seventh place finish from a P18 grid start. I think I could have got a little higher but I had completely overused the front tyre.

“All in all we had a good weekend and made plenty of steps forward, the team and bike were working great.”

Iddon now sits ninth in the championship on 44 points, a six-place jump from Oulton Park.

Elsewhere, Pirelli National Superstock 600 rider, Ben Luxton, secured fourth place at Donington Park in the BSB support series.

Luxton, from Stockport, claimed fifth on the grid for the third round of the championship, claiming fourth place at the flag.

The JR Performance Racing rider now sits in sixth place in the standings.

Ben added; “We had a solid weekend at Donington Park. It was great to battle at the front and have the pace to win.

“The JR performance Kawasaki is working amazing, looking forward to Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks time.”

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship now heads to Brands Hatch, in Kent, from June 14-16.
