Iddon in Showdown hunt on 100th BSB appearance

Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon took a brace of sixth-place finishes as the Bennetts British Superbike Championship made its annual visit to Cadwell Park, leaving him with a shot at a Showdown place with one round to go.

It also saw the Stockport rider rack up his 100th appearance in the series since moving to the domestic scene from World Superbikes in 2015.

Steady improvements throughout free practice and qualifying saw Iddon start race one in seventh, just seven-tenths of a second off the pole time of Bradley Ray [Suzuki].

Climbing to sixth on the opening lap of the race, interrupted by a short safety-car period, Iddon briefly climbed to fifth on lap nine, settling for sixth a lap later, where he would continue to the flag and claim eighth on the grid for race two.

In front of the bumper Lincolnshire crowd, a good start from Iddon again saw him climb a place on the opening lap of race two, and despite dropping back a lap later, the former Supermoto champion was back to seventh by lap six, finally claiming sixth by lap 12, where he would continue to the flag.

Speaking to TYCO BMW afterwards, Iddon said: “I’m content with two sixth-place finishes considering it is a very strong track for two of my main Showdown rivals, so to walk away with 20 points and narrowing that Showdown gap is not too bad.

“Moving forward we have a good set-up for Silverstone and the Tyco BMW works very well there so I’m looking forward to it, it’s a circuit I really enjoy.”

Elsewhere, Stockport’s Ben Luxton claimed fifth place in the latest round of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship aboard his G&S Racing Kawasaki, claiming fifth place after the race was restarted twice.

The BSB championship now moves on to Silverstone in Northamptonshire over the weekend of the September 7-9.
