The Mayor of Stockport put the icing on the cake this week at Stockport charity Independent Options, helping to kick off a year of celebrations by launching a limited edition logo and enjoying a slice of birthday cake.

The charity is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, having first opened its doors as a respite home for children
with disabilities back in 1977.

To mark the special occasion, the charity has launched a limited edition of its logo, which incorporates Independent Options’ original logo, the pine tree.

The pine tree remains very much at the heart of Independent Options as it symbolised the original respite home, which was called The Pines.

Although the use of the building has changed from respite guesthouse to the charity’s head offices, it is still fondly referred to as The Pines.

The Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Chris Gordon, joined Independent Options’ CEO, Steve Hyde, and guests to cut the birthday cake, which featured the 2017 logo.

Steve said: “This year marks a very special year in Independent Options’ history as we celebrate this milestone birthday, and we are thrilled that the Mayor of Stockport could help us launch our special edition logo and join us for a slice of birthday cake.

“We are very proud to have been able to serve our community for the past 40 years, and look forward to the next 40.”

The logo launch marks the beginning of a year packed with events and celebrations for Independent Options, including a charity
multiplier challenge.

This will see 40 teams given a starting pot of £40 cash, and the challenge is to multiply it in the space of 40 days into as much money as possible.
