Ingram salvages valuable points at Rockingham

Tom Ingram salvaged valuable Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship points for Cheshire team Speedworks Motorsport as the former Ginetta champion was forced to retire before the lights had even gone out at the start of race one at Rockingham Speedway in Northamptonshire.

After a brake problem caused the earlier withdrawal, Ingram claimed an impressive ninth place in race two, the Toyota Avensis racer was forced to start from 32nd and place on the grid and fought his way through the pack, claiming eight places on the opening lap alone.

Despite dropping a few places Ingram made steady progress, grabbing tenth spot on lap 12, then picking tenth place off Chris Smiley [Chevrolet] on the last lap of the race.

Ingram ran as high as sixth place in race three, the final race of the day, demoted on lap thirteen by former BTCC champion, Colin Turkington [BMW], then dropped to ninth with two laps to go, as Ant Whorton-Eales [Audi] nipped through, the Avensis racer finishing in eighth place.

Speedworks sit second in the Independents team championship, and fourth in the overall team standings, while Ingram leads the Independents championship by 20 points from Jack Goff [Honda] and sits fifth in the overall standings.

The BTCC now moves on to Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix, on September 17.
