Jacobs Engineering Group, with a UK division based at Cheadle Heath in Stockport, has been appointed by Manchester Airport Group (MAG) to provide engineering and selected architectural services for the £1bn Manchester Airport overhaul.
The Manchester Airport Transformation Project is a 10-year investment programme of £1 billion of significant airside and landside development includes terminal, piers, airfield, multi-level car parks and surface access facilities. The planned expansion provides for a significant increase in Manchester Airport’s capacity, allowing for optimum use of its two existing parallel runways and creating the UK’s global gateway from the north.
M.A.G Chief Executive Charlie Cornish said, “Manchester Airport is thriving as a national asset, forming a key component of the UK’s aviation infrastructure at a time when airport capacity in the United Kingdom is at a premium.
“At Manchester, we have invested heavily in meeting the needs of our airlines, passengers and local communities, and we recognize now is the right time to deliver a transformation program that will meet the needs of all our customers and drive further economic growth for both the region and the country.
“We are delighted to have Jacobs on board and look forward to working with its team to fulfil this ambitious project over the coming years.”
Jacobs already provides services to MAG, including delivering its transformational project at Stansted Airport, and across MAG’s UK airports for the past six years. The company also helped deliver MAG’s first project outside of the UK – the Escape Lounge in Minneapolis.
Jacobs Senior Vice President Buildings and Infrastructure Bob Duff said: “We are delighted to continue our relationship with M.A.G and support Manchester Airport with this major program to transform passenger experience, advance connectivity in the north of the UK and create an exceptional world-class airport.”
M.A.G serves 50 million passengers per annum and handles almost half a million tons of air freight every year through its ownership and operation of the airports of London Stansted, Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports
