After a very welcome day of full fixtures in the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL last week the dreaded winter weather struck again to reduce a full programme to just two completed games.
The heavy snow also caused several 3G pitches to be unfit making it the worst day of the winter to give fixture secretary Malc Kershaw and teams with a huge backlog of games a real headache to complete their schedules by early May.
The Premier division was a total wipe-out but division one saw a great game between high-flying Salford Vics and hosts Newton Heath, who are looking to escape the basement position end at 4-4.
Vics are now four points off third spot behind neighbours Moorside Rangers who have a vital three games in hand.
The only other game played was in division C where Hough End provided an excellent pitch as Manchester Rovers hosted bottom club Burnage Metro thirds.
Rovers raced into a 3-0 interval lead with strikes from the prolific Manuel Desthuex, who has scored 16 times in his last 12 games, Josh Davenport and Andy Murphy and although Metro pulled one back through a fortunate rebound Rovers asserted themselves to cruise to a 5-1 win to move into fourth place in the table as Davenport and Murphy completed their doubles.
In the fixtures for the coming week top team Mellor host Parrs Wood Celtic with the top game of the day being at Kings Road where Whalley Range host reigning champions Rochdalians, who with a huge number of games in hand have the title in their own hands.
Futures Camp
The Manchester County FA will be holding the MCFA Futures Camp at the County FA Headquarters, Platt Lane, Fallowfield, on Tuesday, April 5, and Thursday, April 7.
It is a free event and is aiming to inspire the next generation of young leaders and offers attendees the opportunity to learn about the various opportunities and pathways available in the national game.
It is open to young leaders and volunteers aged 14-24 and will run from 9.30am to 16.00 on each day.
It will deliver a range of workshops based around the six Football Futures themes: – Coaching and working with teams, refereeing, running events, running and developing the game, promoting the game and RESPECT.
Alongside participating in a range of technical workshops the Football Futures Camp will give young leaders the chance to develop a broad range of skills and meet like-minded people passionate about football.
