Liverpool Collegiate too strong for Heaton Moor Senior Colts

Heaton Moor try to repel a Liverpool attack

Liverpool Collegiate 32-0 Heaton Moor Senior Colts

Last year’s Lancashire Cup champions Heaton Moor travelled to Liverpool Collegiate for their opening game of the new season.

A tight first half saw Heaton Moor create the better opportunities, but basic handling errors in the opposing 22 denied them on two occasions.

On the stroke of half-time, Collegiate were three up from a penalty.

They then turned Moor over with great defence, won a penalty and a fantastic kick led to a lineout. This resulted in a rolling maul that gave the home side a 10-point cushion at half-time.

The second half started tightly but Moor were finding it difficult to impose themselves, Collegiate much faster to any breakdown and the defining score arrived 10 minutes in when, after a series of penalties, Collegiate broke the Moor resistance with a try to open up a 15-point gap.

Soon after Evan Coffey received a yellow card for a dangerous tackle. With a man up and a commanding lead, the Liverpool lads started to play some great rugby and ran in three more tries but with Connor Bailey to the fore, Heaton Moor refused to give up.

This weekend the Heaton Moor lads host Newcastle at Green Lane.
