Magic double sets up title hopes

Manchester Magic

Manchester Magic are closing in on the NBL Division One title after two wins on the road.

First up Magic beat Hemel 102-82, followed by a 77-74 win at Leicester.

The now lead Derby by four points and have the luxury of two games on hand.

At Hemel Hempstead on Saturday for a late night tip-off, the game was fairly even for three-quarters but 12 points in the final three minutes sealed the game for Magic.

Ellis Cooper top-scored with 27 points and there were 20 for Jack Minister and 16 for Kayin Darbey.

An injury to point-guard Franc Garcia Garrido caused some concerns for the travelling fans but the healing hands of their physio had him back on the bench for the early afternoon tip in Leicester.

Leicester has always been a difficult team to play at home and this trend continued with the win again sealed late on. Again Cooper top-scored, this time with 31 points.

Another double header this weekend sees a home game against Bradford Dragons, with a drive to Derby for what could be the title decider.

Before the Bradford game on Saturday at the Amaechi Basketball Centre there is the chance for fans to see the National Cup and NBL trophy – the game starts at 6.30pm
