Pupils at The Manchester Grammar School are celebrating another year of exceptional GCSE examination results.
A total of 68% of all grades awarded to MGS pupils were at the coveted A* level.
Nationally, the percentage of A* grades was 6.5%; 90% of all grades achieved by MGS pupils were either A* or A.
There were many outstanding individual performances. No fewer than 36 boys achieved straight A*s, of whom two were awarded 12A*s – fantastic achievements. 98 pupils gained at least seven A* grades.
The GCSE results follow record-breaking A-level results, with 36% of all grades awarded being A*s, a record for MGS, and 91% of all grades were A*-B. This level of performance puts MGS in a very select group of schools nationally.
The School’s High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, said: “I am very proud of the outstanding results our pupils have once again achieved, and delighted that their talent and hard work have been rewarded.
“They can approach the next exciting stage in their academic journeys with real confidence.
“I would also like to thank our talented teachers and staff who have helped our boys realise their academic potential.”
There were outstanding individual performances from Chorlton twins Louis and George Poyser.
Twin success
Louis, 16, was awarded 11 A*s while twin brother George, 16, proved intelligence is a family trait as he was awarded 10 A*s and 1A, making an incredible 21A*s between them.
Louie said: “We’ve always been competitive and had a rivalry inside and out of school. We’ve always been similar and just a few marks apart. I’m now going to study maths, Russian, Chinese and history.
“Both myself and George have always been good at languages, which have come more naturally to us than the sciences. We believe they’ll be useful in our future careers.”
George said: “I’m delighted with the results. At A-level, I’m doing maths, further maths, history and Russian because I have a keen interest in languages. I also enjoy maths so I might study economics at university.”
