Six pupils from South Manchester who attend The Manchester Grammar School (MGS) have secured coveted offers from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

This year, 22 pupils from school received offers for a wide range of courses at Oxford and Cambridge, placing MGS in a very select group of top academic schools nationally.

Among those are 17-year-old Tom Appleby, 18-year-old Charlie Pozniak, and Limeng Zhu, 18, all from Didsbury, and Adib Badri, 17, from Wythenshawe.

Mharab Choudhury, 18, of Burnage, and Rupert Mitchell, 18, of Withington, also received offers.

Tom, who has received an offer to study Italian and Spanish at Pembroke College, Oxford, said: “I am delighted to have received an offer from Pembroke College to study Italian and Spanish.

“I would like to thank all my teachers for giving me invaluable support during the process, from help on my personal statement, to extra university challenge sessions and mock interviews.

“I am really glad that all my extra reading has paid off and I am excited at the prospect of studying at Oxford, however, I know that continued hard work is needed for me to fulfil my offer in the summer.”

Charlie has an offer to study history at Oxford and Adib has an offer to study modern and medieval Languages at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

This year’s offers continue a strong tradition of success for MGS pupils, with more than 100 Old Mancunians currently studying at Oxford and Cambridge.

Dr Martin Boulton, high master, said: “I am very proud of the achievements of these boys, and of the dedication and commitment they have shown which has earned them their offers from Oxford and Cambridge.

“Competition for places at these two prestigious universities is extremely competitive and I am delighted their hard work has been rewarded. I wish them every success with their examinations later this year.”
