Manchester Storm set for new Elite Ice Hockey League season

Manchester Storm start their Elite Ice Hockey League season at the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, September 8, followed by the reverse fixture the following evening in Altrincham.

Sheffield Steelers are early visitors to the SilverBlades Ice Arena on September 22 in the Challenge Cup.

Storm have two great fixtures over Christmas, starting with Glasgow Clan on Boxing Day and then Sheffield Steelers on New Years Day.

Head Coach Ryan Finnerty said: “There are only 11 teams in the top flight this season and there has been some careful planning done to avoid the players having to travel the length of the country overnight, as happened last season.

“It’s a tough league but all teams have been busy in the recruitment market and there should be some great games coming up for fans to watch.”

The sport has also received the bonus of landing a television deal with Freeview.

Finnerty added: “This has to be good for the sport. It gives sponsors great exposure and will hopefully introduce more people to ice hockey.

“Our last eight games of last season were all full houses and with good television and media coverage we should benefit greatly.

“We have Dave Swanton onboard again to help us with media coverage and he brings all his contacts with him to help us raise our profile.”

Before the opening match with Nottingham, Storm have two pre-season games at home to Toelzer Loewen and Eispiraten Crimmitschau.
