An over-40s cricket team has celebrated its first win for more than five years.
Bowdon Cricket Club near Altrincham in Greater Manchester last tasted victory in 2015 but on Wednesday night they finally broke their duck with a seven-wicket win over Ashley.
Nabeel Chowdery struck the winning single to end the losing streak that stretched back around 60 matches.
“I have never been on the winning side before as I only started playing for them four years ago,” said captain Damien Bourke, 47.
“It was a big night for us and a big relief to finally get over the line – we last won in May 2015, about 60 games ago.
“Because the bar is still shut, we celebrated with some cans of lukewarm lager from the boot of my car.”
Ashley had posted 121 for 7 from their 20 overs at Mere Cricket Club, Bowdon’s Roy Calvin with three wickets and a run-out.
Mo Saeed hit 30 in the reply before the win was sealed with a quick single with two balls to spare.
