Priestnall quartet wins bands battle

The Fuse and the Small Blonde - drummer Edward Gibbins, lead guitarist Marcus Ayre, vocalist, rhythm guitarist George Williams-Edwards and vocalist and bassist Natasha Woolfenden.

Talented musicians from Priestnall School in Heaton Mersey hit the right notes to win an entertaining Battle of the Bands contest.

Four-piece group The Fuse and the Small Blonde held off a strong challenge from six other bands to lift the inaugural event run by Stockport Music Service at The Fairway, Offerton.

The event raised £334 to be split between local charities St Ann’s Hospice and Beechwood Cancer Care.

Each band performed three songs before judges John Barratt, Rosemary Barratt and Peter Robinson, all experienced music experts who gave their verdicts and the all-important votes. Priestnall were highly commended for an original piece entitled What You’ve Become.

The other bands were from high schools Marple Hall, St James’, Werneth, Cheadle Hulme, Bramhall, plus indie group Don’t Fret, made up of Stockport sixth form students.

Heather Barlow, Deputy Head of Stockport Music Service, said: “The standard of the acts was extremely high and the event was so successful that we’re aiming to  repeat it next year. We’d like to thank everyone for taking part and coming to watch and it was a reminder that we’ve so much musical talent in the Stockport area.

“Stockport Music Service works with children across the town, offering whole class and small group tuition in primary and secondary schools. We also run a range of ensembles from our base in Offerton.”
