Reddish Vale Golf Club named in top 100 courses

Reddish Vale Golf Club

Reddish Vale has been named one of the best golf courses in the UK. The club on Southcliffe Road has been included in a survey of the best 100 clubs in the country under £100.

It comes in at number 66 in the list compiled by National Club Golfer and is in prestigious company with St Andrews Jubilee and Gullane No2 also included.

Club manager Dave Sanders said: “With another successful year under our belt we intend investing even further this year with drainage work, path renovation and even more bunkers renovated in 2016.

“Despite all the heavy rain we have not had to close the course this winter and have been playing mainly on summer greens with just one hole closed due to the bunker work – this is down to the hard work of the greens staff.

“Membership is looking healthy after a number of golfers joined recently from other courses that have been unplayable, however we would welcome new golfers looking for a 12-month course.”

Top-ranked course is Silloth-on-Solway in Cumbria, followed by Ladybank in Fife, Scotland, and St Enedoc in Cornwall.

Judges said of Reddish Vale: “Don’t be fooled by its modest surroundings – this is a typically classy MacKenzie design, one of those courses you always get lost on your way to. It’s an oasis of green on the outskirts of Stockport.”

Green fees at Reddish Vale start at £16 with more information on the course or membership at the club website.
