Sale golfer Fiona Flanagan wins the Bunty Booth Trophy

Fiona Flanagan with the Bunty Booth Trophy

The competition for the Bunty Booth Trophy is one of the top events in the busy calendar of the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association since their centenary in 2002.

Each of the member clubs in the MDLGA plays a singles qualifying competition in the previous year to decide who will represent them in the final.

Denton Golf Club, with a course in great condition and providing a true test of golf, were the hosts for the event in which there were 68 clubs represented playing in a singles Stableford format.

In a close contest the winner was Sale’s 31-handicapper Fiona Flanagan who posted 35 points to finish ahead of Linda Bailey (Hindley Hall) 34 and Anne Ashworth (Leyland) 33.

Fiona has a great golfing pedigree as her sister Cath Rawthore is the English Senior Ladies champion and a regular for England Seniors.

Cath is also a Sale member, as are her dad and mum and Frank and Brig Elmore.

MDLGA President Chris Kelly (Bramhall GC) presented the prizes and thanked Denton Lady Captain Norma Boott for the excellent service provided by staff and members both on and off the course.
