A popular running series that supports St Ann’s Hospice is heading for a record year with just one race left.

The final event in the Decathlon Sale Sizzlers takes place on Thursday, August 17, at 7.30 pm.

Another field of around 500 is expected for the fourth 5km dash which starts and ends on the track at Wythenshawe Park.

The Sizzlers, promoted by Sale Harriers, attract runners of all ages and abilities. Bucket collections at the first two races raised around £800 for St Ann’s Hospice.

Fechin McCormick, from the Harriers, said: “The Sizzlers have been going for 16 years and have become iconic in the North, attracting runners from across the country and have a great atmosphere.

“This year we’ve had more entries than before and they’re popular because it’s a fast, flat course and a well organised event. The low cost of entry and nice goody bags empower runners to give spontaneously and generously to St Ann’s Hospice.”

More than 30 years ago Fechin helped a fundraising campaign for more than £1m to build the Neil Cliffe Centre, named in honour of his great friend, at Wythenshawe Hospital. Fechin was a chaplain at the hospital at the time.
