Fans trying to get to Stockport County’s Edgeley Park are being directed to EDGELY Park.
The error on new signs as part of Stockport Council’s £145m Stockport Exchange scheme have been spotted by a number of people who took to Twitter this week.
The new signs in the town centre near the railway station point people towards ‘Edgely’ and ‘Edgely’ Park.
They are now covered in tape while new ones are made.
Jamie Summers wrote on Twitter: “Folks, it’s ‘Edgeley’. I’d hope someone would’ve proofed prior to printing…”
And Paula Clarke Bain joined in: ‘Welcome to #Stockport. We know where Edgeley is. We just can’t spell it. #proofreading.”
Stockport Council also used Twitter to respond to the mistake, saying they plan to replace the sign: “We’re aware of this & are working with the contractor to rectify their error as soon as possible.”
A council spokesman later added: “We are aware of this and are working with the contractor to rectify the error, which was made by the sign manufacturer, as soon as possible.”
Stockport Exchange includes a new Holiday Inn, shops, car parking and new railway station entrance and is part of £900m being spent by Stockport Council over five years to improve the town centre over five years.
