Celebrity chef and former Strictly star Simon Rimmer is creating a series of recipes for patients at St Ann’s Hospice.
Rimmer, who has restaurants in Didsbury and Hale, will be working with the Greater Manchester hospice to help create some tasty treats for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses that the hospice cares for.
Elaine Brennan, the hospice dietitian, explained: “I can’t stress enough how important good nutrition is to the wellbeing of our patients.
“Many find that their tastes can change when ill or because of strong drugs or treatments, while others may have special requirements such as being able to only consume food of softer or pureed consistency.
“There are so many considerations, but our amazing kitchen staff at St Ann’s are always looking at ways to ensure that patients nutritional needs are met, whilst empowering them to try new recipes if they wish.
“We’re so excited to be working with Simon to create these recipes that we can incorporate into our menu for both patients, and the staff, visitors and volunteers who use the coffee shops on our sites.
“He’s such a busy man, and we’re really appreciative of his time and the buzz he has created within our team.
“His excitement around creating high quality food that everyone can enjoy has really struck a chord with our staff and his input will be invaluable in helping us to further improve the lives of the people from across Greater Manchester that we care for.”
St Ann’s Hospice provides support to thousands of people with life-limiting illnesses from across Greater Manchester from three sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton and at the Neil Cliffe Centre in Wythenshawe Hospital.
Nurses also care for patients in the place they call home, and provide specialist palliative and end of life support in local communities too.
