Sister Konnie and Darcy Stewart are taking on the Junior Great Manchester Run to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
The youngsters – who both attend Altrincham College of Arts – will be running the 2.5km course on May 20 in memory of their beloved dad Errol, who sadly passed away at the age of 49 with pancreatic cancer in 2014.
The pair have both received support from Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport, a centre that helps people living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses and their families.
Konnie, aged 12, and Darcy, 14, from Sale Moor, were given help to deal with their grief at Beechwood’s Butterfly Family Therapy Centre.
Darcy said: “Dad was really sporty and we enjoyed doing Olympics Games in the garden together, so I think he would be proud of us doing the run.
“We have had a lot of support from Beechwood and want to help raise more funds for them to say thank you.”
The girls have both taking part in fundraising events before for Beechwood including Cash For Kids and Darcy will be giving a speech at the next ladies’ lunch.
Angela Gray, fundraising manager at Beechwood, said: “Beechwood Family Therapy Service offers confidential counselling and support to all family members where somebody has been diagnosed with a serious illness, or there has been a bereavement.
“Supporting children like Konnie and Darcy is extremely important to us and we are very proud of the work that the girls do to support Beechwood – which will in turn help other children who have been going through similar situations.
“I hope it will encourage others to get their running shoes on.”
