Comedy promoter Rob Riley has been named Best Independent Comedy Promoter in the UK Comedy Awards.
The awards were set up in 2014 by London comedian John Moloney with only professional comedians and industry insiders being allowed to vote.
Rob, who runs events across south Manchester including in Chorlton and Heaton Moor, said: “To be voted as best at what you do in the entire country is pretty amazing but the fact that it was all votes from my peers is even better.
“I must admit to being ever so slightly gob smacked and somewhat uncharacteristically speechless.
“I’ll be sinking a few self congratulatory pints and then back to spreading the word about all the great gigs we have coming up in Saddleworth and further afield.”
Oldham-based Rob, 50, supplies comedy night packages to venues up and down the country as well as running four regular nights of his own including Comedy @ Chorlton Irish Club, which runs on the first Friday of every month.
The next Comedy @ Chorlton Irish Club takes place on Friday, January 6, 2017, and includes hotly tipped Blackburn comedian Tez Ilyas and Riley’s long time partner in crime Mick Ferry.
