St Ambrose College Bake Off raises £700 for Macmillan Cancer Care

The St Ambrose Bake Off for Macmillan Cancer Care

There wasn’t a soggy bottom in sight as the St Ambrose College’s Justice and Peace Society raised £700 for Macmillan Cancer Care with a great charity Bake Off.

Over 20 young men with cool hands, sensitive taste buds and an eye for timings baked hundreds of cakes, pastries and biscuits which were all eagerly devoured by friends, parents and relatives during a wonderful afternoon tea at the Catholic grammar school in Hale Barns.

Hannan Sarwar, who is pictured front left above, said: “We all think there should be a lot more to school life than passing exams and our group runs charity events throughout the calendar to support the local community.”

His friend and fellow key organiser Matthew Leigh to his right added: “Judging by the presentation and taste of the cakes we will have some contestants on the Bake Off pretty soon, especially as it now seems the show will have two formats on both the BBC and Channel 4.”

Justice and Peace Society organiser Laura McLoughlin, who is pictured in front of her fellow organiser Shelley McCrory, said: “The boys take full ownership of all their projects, devising planning and then delivering some fantastic events throughout the year.”

St Ambrose thanked local supermarket Booths for their donation of some fancy goods to make the afternoon extra special. Also pctured at the back are Monty Marshall, Harry Leaver and Jerry Brophy.
