A Stockport charity fundraiser is going above and beyond her day job to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice by donning her trainers for her first marathon.

Hannah Saunders, who is fundraising partnerships manager for the hospice in Heald Green, is hoping to raise £2,000 for the local charity when she takes on the London Marathon on April 24.

Hannah said: “Every day I’m working with amazing local people or businesses who go to all sorts of lengths to raise money for St Ann’s.

“I’ve done lots of smaller fundraising events and challenges for the hospice already, including the Great Manchester Run, but really wanted to stretch myself and pull out all the stops to raise as much money as possible.

“I see the impact even the smallest donation has on the patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses we care for at the hospice, and that will keep me pushing through when the training gets hard.

“I’ve started to prepare already and know there’s a long way to go – literally! – but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the big day.”

St Ann’s Hospice has three sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton and at the Neil Cliffe Centre in Wythenshawe Hospital and also supports people with their symptom management and gives other care to patients in their own homes.

The charity receives around a third of its funding from the NHS, with the rest – around £16,000 a day – made up from fundraising activities and donations.
