St Ann’s Hospice is opening its doors for a series of information afternoons to give an insight into its services and opportunities on offer.
St Ann’s will be holding sessions at its Heald Green and Little Hulton hospice sites to help spread the word and give those considering a career in palliative care, or who think they might benefit from accessing its free, specialist services a glimpse of what goes on there.
Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s, said: “Many people think that the old fashioned perception of hospices being gloomy places which care for people only at the very end of their life is true, and we’re hoping that these sessions will help to dispel some of those myths.
“We want to give people from across Greater Manchester the chance to look through our doors and to hear more about what we offer, as well as helping point them to the right services should they feel they would benefit from our care.
“Modern hospices do so much, whether that’s caring for patients and their families right from the point of diagnosis through treatment and beyond, to training students and medical professionals in specialist palliative and end-of-life care skills, and we’re always keen to reach out from beyond our buildings to ensure as many people as possible know about what we do.
“Inviting our local communities into the hospice is just one way of doing that, and we also spend time developing our outreach services to ensure we can continue to care for as many people as possible.
“I’d urge anyone who would like a tour of the hospice, who has questions about what goes on here, or who is simply thinking of a change in career to come along to one of the information afternoons. We’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible.”
The sessions will take place at the hospice’s Heald Green site on St Ann’s Road North in Stockport on 15 February, 24 May, 11 July, and 3 October.
Additional sessions will take place in the Little Hulton hospice on Meadowsweet Lane on 20 March, 15 June, 6 September and 9 November.
All sessions will take place from 1pm to 3pm.
