Stockport County are officially the best-supported team in National League North.

The Hatters have averaged 3,454 fans at home games this season – almost a thousand more than their nearest rivals.

The figures have been released by the National League and show County have bigger gates the eight League Two sides – including near-neighbours Macclesfield – and three League One teams.

The National League website reads: “We’ve had some outstanding performances on the pitch in the National League North.

“Now, the fans are replicating that by turning up in huge numbers.

“We’ve got over ten sides breaking the 1,000 mark with two breaking 2,000 and even one, Stockport County, a few short of the 3,500 mark.

“Darlington’s fans have stayed with their side and have been rewarded with some fine recent displays.

“York City and Kidderminster Harriers fans continue to show support for their sides after some testing times on the field.”

County beat Truro City 5-0 in the FA Trophy at the weekend, and face York City on Saturday.

A club statement reads: “Figures released this week by the Vanarama National League show that County are pulling in 1,000 fans more than our nearest rivals.

“The Hatters’ average attendance this season is 3,454, but that figure is set to rise well above 3,500 following the visit of York City.

“The National League North attendance table shows County in top spot above our closest rivals York City (2,487) and Hereford (2,428).

Even in the National League, there are only three clubs with higher attendances than the Hatters – Orient, Wrexham and Chesterfield.

“Whilst Jim [Gannon] aims to lead his side to the top of the National League North this season, County fans look set to comfortably retain their place at the top of the attendances league for the rest of the campaign.”
