Stockport gym owner on English Women’s Awards shortlist

Lianne Sykes, co-owner of the Lean Body Project

A Stockport gym owner is in the running for an award at the first English Women’s Awards.

Lianne Sykes, who owns the Lean Body Project with partner Damien Coates, has been shortlisted in the Business Woman of the Year (under 50 staff) category.

Lianne, 31, was shortlisted after a public vote on the English Women’s Awards website.

She said: “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for an award that celebrates women in business.

“We have put a lot of hard work into building up the Lean Body Project and that hard work is starting to pay off.

“But we are much more than just a gym – our members see us a community where we all support each other.”

The Lean Body Project on Princes Street in Stockport town centre started out as a bootcamp in 2002 and now has over 200 members.

The gym, which offers group training, now employs seven people, including personal trainers, and admin and sales staff, having been made homeless a year ago.

The winners of the English Women’s Awards will be presented at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel on 19th March.
